Tip 6: Simple Air Stream Definition in Petro-SIM™


Accurate ambient air composition is crucial for real case studies, such as air related reaction, gas turbine power generation, air conditioning, etc. Is there an easier method to characterise the ambient air stream without using multiple material streams (Dry Ambient Air and Water) and multiple unit operations (Mixer, Spreadsheet and Adjust)?


Petro-SIM™ enables users to characterise the ambient air stream in five simple steps. The Material Stream in Petro-SIM automatically calculates the ambient air’s composition with Relative Humidity, Altitude and Ambient Temperature specified. 


  1. Create a new Material Stream by clicking  on the Operations Palette (F4) and left click the PFD to create Stream 1.

  2. Double click on Stream 1 to open its window.

  3. Under Conditions, click on Stream Type and select Air.

  4. Note the addition of two new possible specifications: Relative Humidity and Altitude.

  5. Petro-SIM calculates the ambient air composition upon specifying Relative Humidity, Altitude and Temperature. (Flow rate is required to make the stream solved)
