When setting up meter objects for streams, distillation and composition data are typical inputs. Sometimes the default distillation or composition type in the meter is not the same as the data available. In these situations, is there a mechanism for readily changing the distillation or composition type?
Petro-SIM™ provides a quick mechanism in the meter so that you can easily switch between distillation and composition types via this right-click option.
Distillation types: Distillation ASTM D1160/ASTM D86/D86L/TBP Vol/TBP Wt
Composition types: Composition by Wt / Vol / Mol
The following example is based on the FCC Sample.ksc file in Petro-SIM™ sample files folder. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact email@example.com.
To change current LIGHT CYCLE OIL stream distillation data input type from D86 to TBP Wt, hold the ALT key and double click on the LIGHT CYCLE OIL stream. This action will open the meter attached to this stream rather than the stream itself. (Alternatively, you can right-click on the stream and select “View Meter” option to view the attached meter).
Right-click in the Raw or Model column on one of the Distillation variables. From the right-click menu, select Distillation Type and Distillation TBP Wt from the Menu. This will change the variable type in the meter from the Distillation D86 method to the Distillation TBP Wt method. Note that while the variable type changes, the actual values themselves remain unchanged. Petro-SIM™ does not convert the current data inputs to the new type.
Similarly for composition type, if you use the BB stream as an example. You can use the right-click option to change the composition type from wt% to mol% as following.
